Zendesk Launches Australian Development Centre in Melbourne

September 27, 2011

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – September 27, 2011 – Zendesk, the proven cloud-based customer service software provider, today announced the opening of its new Australian Development Centre in Melbourne that will pave the way for 20 new highly skilled development jobs by September 2013.

Today’s announcement builds on the establishment of Zendesk’s Asia Pacific Headquarters in Victoria in September 2011.

“We’re thrilled with the response and speed at which organisations are implementing Zendesk, not only in Australia and New Zealand but the wider Asia Pacific region. More organisations are beginning to understand the value of providing excellent customer service around the clock and for fast growing businesses, our solution scales quickly and easily. This development centre will enable us to further support our customers locally and incorporate their valuable feedback into future product development,” said Michael Folmer Hansen, Vice President and Managing Director for Zendesk, Asia Pacific.

Zendesk’s new development centre will house some of Australia’s most talented software developers who will work in collaboration with colleagues in the US to help further improve its offering for a constantly changing and emerging consumer audience.

Earlier this month, Zendesk announced the next generation of its cloud-based customer service platform and the completion of U.S $60 million of new financing led by Redpoint Ventures.

Since it was formed in 2007, Zendesk has already acquired more than 20,000 customers globally. Zendesk has also achieved huge growth in the Asia Pacific region since setting up operations in Melbourne one year ago. It currently has 1350 customers in Australia and 350 in New Zealand including Lonely Planet, the REA Group and New Zealand Post. The decision to set up a development centre supports Zendesk’s growth strategy for the Asia Pacific region.

Zendesk will be taking advantage of Australia’s R&D tax credit which provides innovative companies with a cash advance that equates to a tax burden that is 88 per cent less compared to the U.S.

The new development centre is located on Level 2, 482 Bourke Street, Melbourne and will initially house a team of five, with plans to quadruple in size within a year.
