Zendesk Expands San Francisco Presence

June 3, 2011

Zendesk Continues Its Love Affair With the City by the Bay

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Jun 3, 2011 – Zendesk, the leading provider of proven, cloud-based help desk software, today announced its expansion plans in the city of San Francisco. The rapidly growing company outgrew its current SOMA office space and is signing a three-year lease, with expansion rights, for a new headquarters at 989 Market Street, in the Central Market neighborhood. Zendesk is one of the first technology companies taking advantage of the new tax incentives to revitalize San Francisco’s mid-market neighborhood.

Mikkel Svane, Zendesk’s CEO, said, “Zendesk was founded in Denmark and moved to San Francisco in 2009. We have been humbled by the wonderful way we have been welcomed to this city. In return, we are proud and happy to help invigorate this up and coming neighborhood.”

Zendesk is moving from its current location in the start-up center of 410 Townsend, where it employs 80 people. The company plans to hire more than 70 new employees this year alone. Svane expects the move will take place in early summer 2011.

“We are fortunate that San Francisco has bold and visionary plans for the Central Market area,” said Svane. “Plus, the payroll tax exclusion for the neighborhood is just another example of why San Francisco is a great place to grow a business. All of us at Zendesk are proud to be citizens of a city that has the vision and ability to execute on making San Francisco a better place to live and work.”

“I’m pleased that Zendesk has chosen to expand and invest in the Central Market neighborhood of San Francisco,” said San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee. “This city has proven that its combination of abundant creative and technical talent, connectivity to transportation, access to capital and vibrant startup ecosystem make it a world class location for world class companies. We are ecstatic that Zendesk will continue their commitment to San Francisco.”
