Zendesk obtains ISO 27701 accreditation

Certification demonstrates Zendesk’s commitment to the privacy and protection of personal data.

Trust is one of our core values at Zendesk and we’re always working to deliver products that are at the forefront of protecting our customers’ and users’ data. We also know that privacy is becoming an increasingly important concern for our customers. That’s why we’re excited to share that Zendesk has obtained the International Standards Organization (ISO) 27701 accreditation.

What is ISO/IEC 27701?

ISO/IEC 27701:2019 specifies requirements and provide guidance for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving a Privacy Information Management System (PIMS), and is a complement to ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27002 for privacy management within the context of the organization. It aligns security and privacy controls together and creates a framework for managing personal data that can be used by both data controllers and data processors.

In addition, ISO/IEC 27001 audits require the organization to declare applicable laws and regulations in its audit criteria. This means that the standard can be mapped to other requirements under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), or other legislation.

How does Zendesk comply with ISO/IEC 27701?

Zendesk compliance with the ISO/IEC 27701 requirements has been audited and certified by Ernst & Young CertifyPoint, an independent and accredited certifying body.

As it relates to the in-scope products (see below), Zendesk is solely a data processor. As our customers are the data controllers, it is their responsibility to evaluate their own compliance requirements and identify applicable laws and regulations applicable to them, as per the Shared Responsibility Model.

In order to be ISO/IEC 27701 certified, Zendesk must also have ISO/IEC 27001 and 27002 accreditation. All certificates can be downloaded from the in-product Admin Center, or can be downloaded from our Trust Portal.
